G-REX Database Announcement from EEX

GGCS participants are advised by the GGCS Team to review and confirm the below EEX announcement with their IT providers:

As part of our commitment to maintaining the highest security standards in G-REX, we will be implementing changes to enforce modern TLS (Transport Layer Security) standards across all areas of the G-REX registry. Following the deployment of these changes, TLS 1.3 will be enforced as a minimum protocol for communication with the registry.

The planned implementation date for these changes in G-REX is Thursday, 8th October 2026. Changes will be implemented during the regular early morning release deployment window.

 

What is TLS (Transport Layer Security)?

TLS (Transport Layer Security) is the security protocol used to protect data transferred over the internet. Whenever you access a website using HTTPS, TLS is responsible for:

• Encrypting data to prevent unauthorized access
• Verifying the identity of services and websites
• Protecting information from tampering during transmission

Newer TLS versions provide stronger security and better protection against modern cyber threats.

 

What is changing?

All areas of G-REX will now require TLS 1.3 as a strict minimum, instead of TLS 1.2 (which is the currently enforced minimum). In practice, most modern operating systems and web browsers are already using TLS 1.3 by default. As such, most registry users will not notice any change.

However, action may be required if you have:

• External system integrations
• Custom applications connecting to Grexel services
• Legacy clients or SDKs
• Automated scripts or services making API calls
• Third-party products integrated with Grexel endpoints

Clients that do not support TLS 1.3 may no longer be able to connect after the change.

 

What action is needed?

Please review any systems that connect to G-REX and verify with your IT department that they support TLS 1.3.

 

Why are we making this change?

By removing support for older TLS protocols, we can:

• Align with the latest, industry-standard encryption protocol
• Enhance futureproofing of the G-REX registry
